The Moth x Center for Creativity: A Five-Year Celebration

Your City. Your Stories. The Moth.

TCC Center For Creativity The Moth: Celebrating Five Years — Oct 28, 5:30 p.m.

The Center for Creativity is proud to celebrate five years as Tulsa’s exclusive community program partner of The Moth with an evening of curated storytelling by Moth alumni on Tuesday, October 28 at 5:30 pm. This is an in-person event and registration is required.

The event will also be live-streamed. Registration is NOT needed to watch online live. The program will open with a special welcome from Juan Rodriguez, Senior Manager at The Moth, and continue with powerful stories of triumph, tragedy, humor, and hope.

Since 2020, the Center for Creativity and The Moth have partnered to provide eleven storytelling intensives, including The Moth’s first-ever Deaf Voices workshop. These programs have empowered Tulsans to find and share their stories—elevating local voices to the Moth Mainstage in both Tulsa and Dallas.

The strength of this partnership helped bring more Moth events to Tulsa, including the launch of the Pop Up Porch tour in 2022, and Mainstage and StorySLAM events, including the upcoming Mainstage at Cain’s Ballroom this November.

This free, public celebration not only honors the partnership but also looks ahead: two lucky audience members will win the opportunity to develop and share their own true personal story at The Moth x Center for Creativity’s spring storytelling workshop.

The collaboration between The Moth and the Center for Creativity was first envisioned by the Center’s Dean, Annina Collier, who subsequently became a storytelling instructor for The Moth.

“Tulsa’s storytellers amaze me with their honesty, vulnerability, and humor. Being able to help bring The Moth to this community, and to watch local voices rise onto national stages, has been a dream come true,” said Collier.

Together, The Moth and the Center for Creativity continue to expand opportunities for Tulsans to share, connect, and amplify their voices on local and national stages.

The Thomas K. McKeon Center for Creativity ignites the creative spirit through education, collaboration, and inspiration. It provides creative spaces for learning, both for students and the community. The Center for Creativity is home to the TCC Visual Arts, Digital Media and Design, and Mass Communication programs. The public is invited to the McKeon Center for free workshops, events, and art exhibitions. Think you can’t draw, dance, act, or design? Come take one of our free I Can't workshops, and awaken a dormant section of your brain. Go on a photo shoot with a Pulitzer Prize-winner, paint with internationally known artists, or see an art exhibit.

About the McKeon Center for Creativity

A vision of then-President Thomas K. McKeon, the Center for Creativity opened in 2009 with the goal of integrating three academic disciplines to provide a collaborative learning environment that mimics the professional world. The Center offers courses in drawing, painting, 3D art, photography, web design, animation, video production and editing, journalism, television broadcast, radio broadcast, and more. The Center for Creativity was renamed the Thomas K. McKeon Center for Creativity upon his retirement in June 2014.

Today, the Center is a multi-use facility that hosts events, workshops, and art exhibitions in the Event Hall that are free and open to the public. The Center partners with nonprofit organizations and fosters collaborations with members of the Tulsa Arts District and the wider Tulsa community. Programming, exhibitions, and collaborations are directed by Annina Collier, annina.collier@tulsacc.edu, Dean of the Center for Creativity, and George Kaiser Family Foundation Endowed Chair.

The Center also houses The Center for Creativity Channel, a YouTube channel that highlights TCC and the Tulsa community.

Many thanks to the generous donors from the public and private sectors who helped make the Thomas K. McKeon Center for Creativity a reality.
